from natural causes in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Nan always considered Chattanooga home; she believed it to be the finest place a person could
find themselves. She happened to be lucky enough that it was her birthplace.
After graduating from Central High School, Nan went on to earn a Bachelors in Childhood
Education from The University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. Throughout her career she
introduced children to the wonders of literature while working as an Elementary School
Librarian; many of her students remember her and the way she sparked their curiosity.
A long standing member of Saint Andrews United Methodist Church, she established many
relationships and helped cultivate community outreach programs. She was instrumental in Saint
Andrews' English as a Second Language program. After they closed their doors she began
attending Christ United Methodist Church, where she immediately became a valued part of the
congregation.
Weekly visits to the beauty shop every Friday afternoon were a staple throughout Nan's life. She
delighted in looking her best, but the friendships she developed with her stylist and other
patrons of the shop were what kept her going back.
You could often find Nan tending her garden and maintaining her yard; she cut her own grass
well into her eighties. Her love for animals was apparent. She could identify any bird that landed
on her bird feeders and kept cats throughout her life.
Nan was preceded in death by her parents Amos and Lillie Faye Glasscock as well as her four
siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Juanice Smith, Susan Taylor and Nancy Morgan,
granddaughters, Suzanne Storie, Kayti Rowlett and Lara Morgan, and two great-grandchildren.
A service in her memory will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, located at 8645 East
Brainerd Road on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 12pm.
The family will receive friends from 11am till the time of service at the church.
Interment at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Holston United Methodist Home for
Children, a mission Nan supported for many years.
