On September 21, 2018, Laura Evelyn Daniel, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, precious sister, aunt, cousin and friend at her home full of love went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 82.
Ms. Daniel was preceded in death by her parents, Madge Parker and Adell D. “Red” Dixon, and her spouse, James W. “Sonny” Daniel. She is survived by her children, Deborah “D.D.” (Roger) Taylor, Patti S. Eidson, Jeff Daniel, Lisa (John) Funderburk, Jimmy (Debbie) Daniel Coke, Cheryl Daniel Senn, Jan (Keith) Daniel Lackey and Jan (Mike) Childers, sisters, Nancy Nason and Donna Shelton, brother Jim Whitson, 19 grandchildren, Patrick, Elisabeth, Kirk, Rebecca, Amanda, Rachael, Candy, Joe, Laci, Jessica, Ronald Jr., Donald, Steve, Scott, Jason, Jonathan, Jennifer, Christopher, Lauren, 42 great-grandchildren, several great great-grandchildren and one on the way, several cousins, nieces and nephews, in-laws and her beloved dog, Beau.
A native of Dalton, Georgia, after a brief residency in Brunswick, Georgia, during WWII, her family moved to Chattanooga and she lived here most of her life. In younger years, she was a local restaurant owner and operator with her husband, Sonny. She was a superb cook, and had a great flair for decorating. Epitomizing a creative homemaker, she always managed to ‘make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear’. She was a true example of a ‘Proverbs 31 woman’, whose “husband and children rise up and call her blessed”.
Ms. Daniel was a member of Redemption to the Nations Church, Chattanooga, Tennessee. She had a dynamic Christian testimony. A few years after her biblical born again conversion in 1979, she served on the staff locally of the inductive Bible study ministry, Precept Ministries International, and retired from there in 1993. She was a faithful embodiment of the strength of Christ, and as the godly matriarch of her family, a ‘rock’. Known by all for her compassion, kindness and great sense of humor, she was strikingly beautiful, and very classy.
In addition, though loving to all, one of her children commented, “Mama loves Daddy, us kids, Elvis and to watch the sunset”. Amazingly at her 80th Birthday Bash before a crowd of family and friends she could still cut a rug with ‘Elvis’! He entered the building just for her [or was that a dear family member donned with white pantsuit under those side burns and sunglasses, singing and swaying his hips?]. She was a woman of great grace and excellence. Therefore she was often heard saying, “Anything worth doing is worth doing well,” and she finished her race well, indeed.
