Kenneth Ray Fox, born March 5, 1936 in Baskin, Louisiana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 25. 2023 just a week shy of his 87th birthday. He was surrounded by loved ones at a local hospital at the time of his passing.
Ken graduated from West Lake High School in Louisiana in the year 1954. At West Lake, he played on the State Championship football team and received many other honors as a student.
He attended college at Northwestern State University for one year. From 1956-1958 he served in the US Air Force with a six month tour in Italy. After this, he attended Louisiana State University from 1958-1962 and received a degree in electrical engineering in May 1962.
In 1962, Ken began his career with Westinghouse in Newport News, Virginia working aboard Polaris Submarines. He then worked for Chrysler in New Orleans, LA from 1964-1965. During this time he was part of a team that designed the electrical system for the Saturn V Moonshot Project that launched the first rocket to the moon, in 1969.
The last years of his career included work for Dow Chemical in Plaquemine, LA. From 1965-1972 he served as manager for the power plant and on a special project in Germany which was from 1970-1972.
After retirement, he and his wife Margaret “Peggy” Barnett, moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas before finally settling in Chattanooga, TN in 1998.
Ken was known by many as a generous, kind and loving man of God. As a member of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church he regularly participated in church events. Ken enjoyed travel, music, worship concerts, going to plays and trying new restaurants. Ken lived a very blessed life on this Earth, often describing his time in the following, “from Frontier days to Space Age.”
Ken is preceded in death by his mother, Myrtie Cornelia Halley Fox, and father, Joseph Howard Fox and brother, Ronald Fox of DeQuincy, LA.
Ken is survived by siblings, Glynn Fox (88) of Rockville, MD; Shelba Kile (85) of Westlake, LA; Pat Dees (79) of Westlake, LA.
Ken is also survived by daughter, Margaret (Jason) Melanson of Maine; daughter, Amanda Barber of Alabama; stepdaughter Sarah (Kyle) Haren of Chattanooga; step daughter, Angela (Chris) Robertson of Chattanooga; stepson, Scott (Diana) East of Chattanooga; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 2, 2023 in the funeral home chapel of the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Ken will be laid to rest at Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
