He was a graduate of Central High School and attended Duke University and graduated from the University of Chattanooga.
He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. He had also served as the Chairman of the Deacons of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Overland Park, Kansas.
Mr. Robinson was a veteran of World War II where he served with the United States Marine Corp as a First Lieutenant. He was retired from Diamond Vogel Paint Company where he was the technical director. He was a former employee of Gilman Paint Company of Chattanooga.
Mr. Robinson was a 50 year member of the American Chemical Society. He was in the Masonic Lodge and Gideon’s International.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen L. Robinson; two sons, James L. (Patricia) Robinson, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, and Donald H. (Dawn) Robinson, Carlsbad, California; four grandsons, Kyle (Stephanie) Robinson, Andrew (Lexi) Robinson, Ryan Robinson, and Tyler Robinson; one great-grandson, Brooks Robinson; one sister, Ruth Robinson, Chattanooga; several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel with Dr. Bill Owens and the Rev. Wert Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The friendship Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga and two special caregivers, Jackie and Tonya for their love and care during this time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship Sunday School Class of Ridgedale Baptist Church.
