James Kenneth (Kenny) Morrison, age 81, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on December 13, 2024. All of heaven has rejoiced as Kenneth was re-united with his loved ones who have gone before him. Surely he heard “Well done my good and faithful servant,” as he entered into eternity.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his son James Kenneth Morrison Jr (Junior), his parents James Wilbur Morrison and Mary Lee McCoy Morrison, and his special grandma Nellie Blanche Shook McCoy Dagenhart Elliott as well as many other family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Wanda O Sullivan Morrison, Daughters: Lisa M Doss of Dayton TN and Elizabeth (Michael) Baugh of Chattanooga TN, Grandchildren: Aleta Doss of Dayton TN, Andrea (Phil) Lawson of Fort Olgethorpe Ga, Kimberly Willoughby of Chattanooga TN and Michaela (Jose) Quintero of Ypsilanti Michigan, Great-Grandchildren: James Gregory and Ella Townsend, Twin: Larry (Helen) Morrison of Evensville TN, Sisters Aundrea (Phill) Eller of Statesville NC and Patricia Henley of Concord NC, Brothers: Craig (Mary Lois) Morrison of Stateville NC and Steven Morrison, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Kenneth was a resident of the New Harmony community on Dayton Mountain. He was known for his big smile and fun loving spirit. He had an unwavering determination to help others that pushed him to work hard in every capacity with loyalty and integrity.
After high school, Kenneth served in the Army were he was an expert marksman and sharpshooter. Kenneth moved his young family to the New Harmony community in 1974 to help assist his father and mother-in-law on the family farm. Kenneth loved farming the land and continued to do so all of his days. He was a founding member of Ekklesia Bible Tabernacle – The Lighthouse on Dayton Mountain where he also served as senior Trustee for 41 years and as a deacon. He was a trusted tax preparer at Morrison's Tax & BBK Service in Dayton for 41 years where he helped many people and counted them as friends. Kenneth also served as a volunteer and helped bring a public water system to Dayton Mountain (the Summer City Utility District which was later taken over by the City of Dayton).
Grounded in his faith that love is the greatest commandment, Kenneth worked hard his entire life to provide for his family and community. He raised his children to know God and to work hard and appreciate all that the Lord entrusted to his family. He embodied unconditional love, perseverance and unending generosity. He was clever and full of knowledge gained through life experiences. He practiced what he preached, teaching by example, and will live on in our acts as we continue his legacy.
He will forever reside in and inspire our hearts. We will love and miss him until we meet again.
A family burial was held at Rigsby Cemetery where he was laid to rest next to his son. A celebration of his life will be held on January 18, 2025 at 2 pm EST at Ekklesia Bible Tabernacle – The Lighthouse (4832 Dayton Mountain Hwy, Dayton TN 37321).
