April 15, 1948 - June 11, 2024
Daisy P. Bush Smith was born in Donalsonville ,Georgia on April 15, 1948 to Edna and Raymond Bush. Her family later moved to Jacksonville, Florida to work for the Davis family, founders of the Winn-Dixie chain; she enjoyed exploring the Davis’ Dee Dot Ranch property with various roaming buffalo.
Daisy graduated from Indian River Junior College in Fort Pierce then moved to North Miami where she married and raised her two children Alesha Manning (Smith) and Jason Smith. Daisy was an amazing cook–she baked a cake every Sunday, as a matter of fact. There was never a hungry stranger at her home. She cared for every visitor with hot food and the best hospitality. She retired from CoreLogic after working there for more than 35 years as a data analyst. She spent her golden years in Chattanooga, TN, spending time with her daughter & daughter-in-law, having sleepovers with her granddaughters, welcoming newcomers to church on Sundays, walking her neighborhood with friends and never missing an episode of Blue Bloods or a new variation of Star Trek.
Daisy enjoyed learning and sharing all things Black History. She could also relate any life story to any of her many favorite shows…she saw them all! Her favorite colors of Black, White & Red were in everything she wore or possessed; and she rocked those with great joy. She was always fashionably elegant and led a trendy lifestyle.
She was always quick to smile, to speak “her truth,” and to give her last for her family. Predeceased by her siblings Edward Hunter (Mary) and Lillian Bush (Clarence), she is survived by her two children Alesha (Anne) and Jason (L’Tosha), aunt Maebelle Mays, siblings Willie Pearl Gittings, Bobby Smith, Bryant Smith, Janice Smith, Lamar “Ran” Smith and Reverend Daniel Smith (Selena), 6 grandkids D’Joun, Jason Jr. (M’Lisia), Jamal, Krystal, Jaime, and Josephine, 2 great grandchildren Savannah and Jamal Jr. as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Special thanks for loving care and companionship over the years to her sister Willie Pearl, Pearl’s daughter Denise Gittings-Wheeler and Denise’s daughter Melanie. This foursome lived it up together doing Big Tings all over Miami. Big Tings!!
A Celebration of Life for Daisy will be held in Miami, Florida on July 13th.
