Charlie was born in Chattanooga, graduated from Central High School in 1954 and attended UT Knoxville. He retired from Combustion Engineering after 46 years as an Engineer and remained as a consultant for 10 additional years. While at Combustion he played softball and baseball on the intermural teams. He loved sports and was always involved in his sons’ athletics including coaching the Barger Blues. Charlie was a huge Tennessee Volunteers fan, loved NASCAR racing, especially Dale Earnhardt, and enjoyed playing golf. Charlie and his wife enjoyed traveling together after his retirement, and were members of Ooltewah Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Frances “Cricket” Bailey; sons, Charles David (Mary Beth) Bailey of Tunnel Hill, GA and Troy Alan (Maria Beth) Bailey of Ringgold, GA; Grandsons, Adam and Andrew; brother, Robert (Carol) Bailey; and brother-in-law, Bob Parvin.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Parvin.
There will not be any visitation at the funeral home.
The family and friends will meet at the Valley View Chapel and there will be a procession at 1:30 PM Sunday, May 5, 2019 to Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery for a Graveside Service with Dr. Bill Owens officiating.
