Patricia Pierce Garre, RN, MS, PhD, aged 74, died peacefully March 19, 2014, at her home in Chatham, Massachusetts after returning from a 10-day cruise in South America. Dr. Garre was the daughter of the late Wallace L. Pierce, of S.S. Pierce, and his wife Mary Markle Pierce. She grew up in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, attended Winsor School graduating from the Masters School at Dobbs Ferry, NY, Bradford Junior College, and graduated from Boston University School of Nursing. She worked locally in Boston’s medical community as an RN associated with several hospitals, including Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Hahnemann (Vencor) before moving into health care administration. She returned to school for a Master’s and later PhD in health management policy, both at Northeastern University. Her last position was Executive Director of Marina Place, an assisted living facility. After retirement, she became an independent consultant in that field. Pat was the beloved wife of the late Dr. David C. Garre and the devoted mother to Heather Garre Day (Iain), David C. Garre, Jr., Lindsay Garre Bierwirth (Fred) as well as grandmother to Jane T. Bierwirth, Harriet P. Bierwirth, and Sarah Day. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Markle (Bunny) Pierce Adams. In addition to the love of her family, Labradors, and love of travel, she was active with St. Christopher’s Church, Chatham, the League Club of Cape Cod and was a member of Eastward Ho!, and the Chatham Beach and Tennis Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. Services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, March 29 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Chatham.
