He was the beloved husband of Nancy Jane (Calder) Eldridge of South Chatham whom he married on September 29, 1951.
Born on July 23, 1927, he was the youngest child of the late Oren Stanley and Maude Kendrick Nickerson Eldridge of South Chatham. He was predeceased by his daughter, Heidi Lee Eldridge in November of 2001, his sister, Edith Pierce and his brothers Wilbur and Sullie Eldridge.
A 1946 graduate of Chatham High School, he went on to Mass Radio School in Boston. He proudly served in the U.S. Army until 1953. He was a 50 year member of the St. Martin’s Masonic Lodge in Chatham.
He owned the original Chatham TV and Sea in the Rough Restaurant. He enjoyed working at Nauset TV in Orleans.
Poppie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his daughter Karen Howes of East Harwich, Sara Fellman of Orleans, Abigail Nickerson and her husband, Mark of Hyannis; his grandchildren, Andrew Howes, Amanda Howes, Carrie Douglas, Sonja Fellman, Benjamin Eldridge; his great grandchildren, Autumn, Ahnika, Kaden, Forest, and a new arrival in 2013. He was a wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews. We all love you and will miss you Poppie.
A funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road in Chatham. Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery in Chatham.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Road, Sandwich, MA 02537.
