Frank J. Hoenemeyer, age 101, departed this life on August 25, 2021. He now joins his beloved wife of 70 years, Lucille. Lucille and Frank were each the love of their lives. They met on Veterans Day 1937, and were married five years later. They raised their two sons and two daughters in Madison, NJ and summered on Cape Cod. Lucille and Frank travelled extensively together for business, including trips to Japan, Hong Kong, Scotland, and many European countries.
In his passing, he was surrounded by his children F. Jay, and spouse Theresa of Oneonta, AL; Cheryl and spouse Harriett, of Orleans, MA; Marylyn and Thomas O’Conor of Los Angeles, CA; and David and spouse Erin of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
In addition he is survived by his five grandchildren: Nicholas and spouse Shaye; Laura and spouse Luke Patronella; Lauren; Caroline; and Julia; and two great-grandchildren: Riley and Bohdi.
His greatest joy was his family, with afternoon sails in the Beetle Cat on Pleasant Bay and picnic expeditions to North Beach. He and Lucille enjoyed the Cape since vacationing here in the 1950s, before settling in North Chatham in 1970. Lobster dinners, cole slaw, blueberry pie, and peach ice cream were signature homemade summer dishes for family gatherings.
He was born and reared in Cincinnati, OH and graduated Xavier University in June 1941. He transitioned directly from ROTC to the Army Air Corps. He served in the European Theater in various staff functions with the Eighth and Ninth Air Forces. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. During his service he graduated the Army Command and General Staff School.
In 1947, he graduated the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and joined the investment department of the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, NJ. He retired in 1984 as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, with responsibility for all investment activities.
Subsequently, he served as a Director of the American International Group, Corporate Property Investors, Fidelity Investments, Hambros Bank, Mitsui Trust, W. P. Carey, and Wellsford Property Management.
He served as a Trustee of Oak Knoll School, Delbarton School, College of St. Elizabeth, Rutgers University, and Xavier University. He was also a trustee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Turrell Fund.
A viewing will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home in Chatham on Monday August 30th from 4 until 6pm. The Rite of Christian Burial will be heard at Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham on Tuesday August 31st at 10am. Burial to follow in Union Cemetery, Chatham.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod.
