“I didn’t live this long not to do what I want to do”
Harwich - Arthur W. ‘Bucky’ Baker passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness on December 2, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Arthur was born on June 20, 1932 in Hyannis to the late Albert and Mary (Lavoie) Baker of Chatham. Throughout his life, Bucky worked at several places. He was most known for his re-finishing work of antiques at the 1736 Antique House in Chatham. Bucky enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, watching Nascar, and is remembered for his #99 dune buggy racing car, known as “The Road Runner Beep Beep”. His second race car was known as the “The Assassin”.
Bucky served in our nation’s army as a Ranger from 1953 - 1956, with a tour of duty in Korea. He was an active life member of the Chatham VFW Post #8607 for most of his life.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Dorothea C. ‘Dodi’ Chase and two daughters, Estelle and Sheila Baker. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 34 years, Mary. He is also survived by his 6 children, Shireene Piskura of Harwich, Kevin Baker of Harwich, Shirley Dutcher of Harwich, Shawn Baker and his wife Jacqueline of Brewster, and Mathaew Baker of Harwich, and Heidi Lewis and her husband Jeff of West Yarmouth. Also, 3 step-children, Billy Watson and his wife Jacqueline of Harwich, Jon Watson of Harwich, and Mae Wordell and her husband Jonathan of Chatham. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Alice Brunelle of Rhode Island, Irene Bard of Chatham, Mary Farrenkopf of Dennisport, and 1 brother, Albert Baker of New Hampshire.
He also leaves behind 14 Grandchildren, 6 step Grandchildren, 3 GreatGrandchildren, 2 step GreatGrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews
Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday December 9 2012 from 1 to 3 pm at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, with a gathering to follow at the Chatham VFW.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA at 434 rte 134 Building D, South Dennis, MA 02660.
