Delores Kay Smith

Kay was born July 13, 1930. She was the adopted daughter of Prentice and Pauline (Chism) Witham. Kay married the love of her life, Marvin L. Smith, on November 6, 1954, in New Berlin Baptist Church after Marvin returned from Korea. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2008.

She attended school in Plymouth, MI and New Berlin, IL where she graduated in 1948. Kay worked for the Ford and Allis Chalmers dealership in New Berlin from 1948 to 1956, the Springfield School District for seven years, and Lincoln Land Community College for 21 years.

Kay was a very active member of Cherry Hills Church and the Kingdom Builders Sunday School starting in 1954.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin; parents, Prentice and Pauline Witham; sister, Donna Jean Witham; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

Kay is survived by her brother, Gerald “Bud” (Virginia) Witham; two sons, Ronald (Joyce) Smith of Springfield, and Terill (companion Lisa Hartley) Smith of Springfield; three grandsons, Douglas Smith, Christopher (Amie) Smith, and John “J.D.” (Anitta) Smith; four great-grandchildren, Autumn Smith, Colin Smith, Jonah Barnabas, and Anaya Barnabas, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who she loved dearly.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive family and friends from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Cherry Hills Church, 2125 Woodside Road, Springfield. Funeral will follow at 12:00 p.m.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
