Sonny Randall Wooten, 82, of Charlottesville passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the Laurels of Charlottesville.
Sonny native to Trion, Georgia, was born on February 4, 1942 to Homer Wilson Wooten and Vera (Williams) Bacon.
Sonny was a graduate of Aiken High School in Aiken, SC. He went on to join the US Army and served in the reserves for 8 years. Sonny worked for Winn-Dixie Supermarkets, Inc. for 38 years. When he began his career he started as a bag boy, however, his hard work and dedication was noticed and he climbed the corporate ladder quickly. He also met the love of his life, Mary “Mikie,” while working at Winn-Dixie.
Sonny is preceded in death by his father, Homer Wilson Wooten; his beloved wife, Mary Michael (Coffey) Wooten; and his step-father William Thomas Bacon.
Sonny leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother, Vera (Williams) Bacon (Greer, SC); his four daughters, Bebe Carter and her husband Kenny (Greer, SC), Connie Smith and her husband, Mike (North Palm Beach, FL), Beth Strobl and her husband, Peter (Vienna, WV), Karen Morris and her husband, Peter (Charlottesville, VA). He leaves behind his 11 grandchildren Jordan Smith Nicolino, Joey Carter, Charlotte Smith Bell, Reid Strobl, Wil Carter, Drew Strobl, Lora Carter Mason, Wyatt Strobl, Mary Michael Strobl, Paige Michael Morris, and Jack Morris. He also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren Maddox Nicolino, Jay Carter, Wesley Nicolino, Palmer Bell, and Reeves Carter.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Monticello Memory Gardens with Father Matthew Erickson presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sonny’s honor to the Wounded Warriors Project.
