Patrick Ryan Vaughan, 52, of Charlottesville, Virginia, died at home on Friday, March 31, 2023, surrounded by his family after a long and courageous struggle with cancer. Ryan is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Mindy McEuen Vaughan, and their three children, Carter, Isabelle, and Ethan. He is also survived by his parents, Pat and Judy Vaughan, and his two brothers and their families: Dan and Sandra Vaughan and children Nathan and Andrew, and Chad and Crissi Vaughan and children JP and Katie. Ryan received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce and an MBA from the University of Georgia. He worked at SNL Financial and served as the Chief Financial Officer for Quantitative Investment Management (QIM) before pursuing his passion to teach math. He generously donated his time, expertise, and resources to support Charlottesville charities, serving on the boards of Madison House, ReadyKids, AHIP, and BEATDiabetes. Ryan was and always will be the best of the best in every way. He had a wonderful personality along with an unparalleled combination of knowledge, heart, and humor. Ryan’s most treasured gifts were Mindy – the love of his life and best friend – and their children. He had a unique and special relationship with each child that honored the best of them. They loved traveling as a family, exploring and learning about new places together. Ryan’s family and friends will remember him for his zest for life, endless curiosity, and sage advice. For such a smart guy, he was down-to-earth and an easy conversationalist. He was sincerely interested in everyone he met and able to quickly make genuine connections, always leaving indelible impressions. His interests were wide ranging and his passion for Virginia basketball, in particular, was enduring. Above all he was game – always ready to visit a new city, try a different food, enjoy a new experience. He was kind and generous and he was there when you needed him. You were better off for having known him. Ryan’s grace and courage throughout his cancer battle was inspiring. He fought tirelessly with the singular goal of being there for his family for as long as he possibly could, setting an example of bravery that will live on in all those who loved him. Ryan and Mindy will forever be so grateful to their families and the community of friends who have so generously and lovingly provided help and support over the past few years. The family encourages donations to ReadyKids or the Colorectal Cancer Alliance (through the Ryan Vaughan tribute page) in lieu of sending flowers. No memorial service will be held at this time.
