Mary Alice Payne

Mary Alice Payne, 64, died at her residence on January 20, 2016. Born in Goochland, VA, on May 28, 1951, she was the daughter of the late, Andrew W. Payne and Mary Louise Ragland Payne. Mary is survived by her brother, James W. Payne and wife Gayle; brother, Donald I. Payne and wife Nancy; nephews, Matt, James Lewis, and David; nieces, Michelle, Rachael, and Lynzie; four great nephews; and, one great niece.

Mary received her degree in Nursing from Piedmont Virginia Community College and was a devoted Registered Nurse for over 40 years. Mary’s selfless dedication to her practice and compassion towards her patients was unparalleled. She took particular pride in and was most recognized for her specialized skills in Wound Care. Mary also served with distinction as an instructor at her alma mater for over ten years having received multiple awards recognizing her commitment to the teaching and training of future healthcare professionals.

Mary enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was especially grateful for her lifetime companion and caregiver, Tracy Shifflett. Some of her hobbies included ceramics, photography, gardening, reading a good book, baking, and cooking. Mary was a true animal-lover.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to the North Garden Volunteer Fire Company or Fluvanna SPCA. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 3:00 PM at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville, VA.
