Louis W. Hart Jr. (Lou) passed away on June 17, 2022. Lou is survived by his wife Elva Trevino Hart, and their six sons/plus wives and partners….Bill, Lou and Lisa, Steve and Gina, Larry and Joan, Juan and Tom, and Roque. He has been blessed with seven grandsons-----Zachary, Jacob, Tyler, Randy, Justin, Turner, and Kellen as well as two great grandchildren Reed and Margo.
Lou was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1936, his parents being Louis W. Hart and Melanie Favre Hart. He has a brother, Arthur and a sister, Marian, in Little Rock, Arkansas. An Eagle Scout, Lou won a competitive Scouting trip to Sweden when he was sixteen. He graduated from both the University of Arkansas and Washington University in St. Louis.
Lou worked for Mobil Oil for thirty years, where he had managerial and executive positions, located in seven U.S. locations. He was an engineering graduate and managed headquarters and field units-----mainly financial and facilities. He had social and justice interests such as starting a tutoring project in a black elementary school in Dallas, supporting both the Legal Aid Justice Center and Virginia Organizing in Charlottesville, VA, and being a leader with a migrant Head Start/day care operation on the Virginia Eastern Shore.
Lou’s first wife, Joanne Zaloudek Hart passed away early. She was the mother of Bill, Lou, Steve, and Larry.
In retirement, Lou was involved with -----traveling with Elva, gardening, painting, being a Quaker, being associated with the Hispanic group at Church of the Incarnation, and advocacy for immigrant justice in Virginia.
Elva and family have asked that donations be made for justice projects at the Charlottesville Legal Aid Justice Center, Virginia Organizing, and Sin Barreras.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 5 PM on July 9, 2022 at the Quaker Friends Meeting House, 1104 Forest Street, Charlottesville, Virginia.
