Born, March 1, 1963 in Newport News, VA, Lisa was a resident of Charlottesville since 1985. Lisa graduated from Radford University and The University of Virginia in 1985 and worked for twenty-five years at The University of Virginia Medical Center as a Medical Technologist in the Hemotology labs. During her career, she participated in several research projects and was credited for her work in numerous published medical journal articles. Lisa was a member of Meadows Presbyterian Church and participated in the choir and hand-bell choir. Lisa was also an accomplished musician and enjoyed participating with the Charlottesville Community Orchestra for many years.
Lisa was preceded in death by her father, William C. Gross, her aunt and uncle, Danise and Herman Tuttle, and her maternal and paternal grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Edward W. Housley of Charlottesville, her mother, Mary C. Gross of Newport News, her brother, Glenn M. Gross of Newport News, her cousins, Maxyne T. Weaver and her husband John, Natalie M. Weaver and Janice D. Weaver; all of Pinetops, NC, her cousin Michael Clark of San Tan Valley, AZ and countless friends and supporters.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Tom Goodrich, will be held at Meadows Presbyterian Church on Friday June 12, at 11:00 a.m.
The family will then receive friends on Friday evening from 6-7:30 p.m at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. A subsequent funeral service, officiated by Dr. Michael Condrey will be held on Saturday June 13, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meadows Presbyterian Church, 2200 Angus Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 1209 Hampton Highway, Yorktown, VA 23693, or to a favorite charity.
The family wishes to express an enormous heartfelt “Thank You” to her oncologist, her other doctors, specialists, nurses and supporting staff at UVA Medical Center for their unwavering dedication and friendship extended to Lisa during her journey. A special “Thank You” also goes out to the dedicated staff of Hospice of the Piedmont; specifically Hospice House for their compassion and great care shown to Lisa.
