Katherine Woolford Moyer, 85, of Charlottesville, VA peacefully walked from the arms of her loving family into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, November 12, 2023 after a long, courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Katherine was born January 10, 1938 to the late John Henry and Dorothy Woolford. In addition to her parents, Katherine is predeceased by her beloved son, Richard Moyer; siblings Patrick Dudley, Florence Snead, Lewis "Jim" Woolford, Charles Woolford and John Woolford. Katherine's unwavering love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was ever present in her words and interactions with others. She had a gentle nature that drew people to her and endeared her to their hearts. Katherine had a servant's heart and faithfully served most of her life in various capacities at Belmont Baptist Church with her church family whom she loved dearly. Katherine worked for State Farm Insurance Company until she and Shields began their family in 1967. She then embarked on a 50 year career of private childcare where she blessed, and was blessed by, many special families and the precious children entrusted to her care. Later in her work career, Katherine held a part-time position at Belk Department Store where she met and befriended many special people. Katherine is survived by the love of her life and devoted husband of 67 years, Roderick Shields Moyer, Jr.; daughters Renee Sampson (Scott) of Charlottesville, VA, Rachel Keller (Adrian) of Oak Ridge, NC; granddaughters Jordan Kennamer (Robert Smiley), Victoria Sampson, Katie Keller, Megan Keller, Emily Keller, and Allison Keller; great-grandchildren Gwendolyn, Serena and Remus Smiley; honorary daughter Monica Hott (Ryan) of Stephens City, VA and their children Leah and Caleb. Katherine is also survived by several sisters-in-law who were like sisters and many nieces and nephews all of whom had a very special place in her heart. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 21st from 6:00-8:00 pm at Belmont Baptist Church, located at 830 Monticello Avenue in Charlottesville. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, November 22nd at 1:00 pm at Belmont Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, VA. Our deep gratitude to the amazing staff at Renaissance Assisted Living and Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care of Katherine/Mom and to our church families and friends who have supported our family throughout this journey.
