Judith Lena Robinson Pettit passed away on April 29, 2015 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 83. Born November 16, 1931 in Luray, Virginia, Judith was the daughter of the late William and Anna Robinson. She grew up in nearby Stanley. In 1950 she married Homer H Pettit of Pine Grove. They made their home in Lyndhurst, Virginia and raised three children. Judith devoted her life to her family. She was a loving wife and mother, a superb cook, and a gardener with the proverbial green thumb. She was an avid reader and armchair archeologist, collector of Native American artifacts, and a fan of the Virginia Cavaliers for 45 years. She was a wise advisor in many things, and instilled a love of learning, love of family, and pride in achievement in her children. Judith was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Herbert Robinson of Baltimore, MD. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Homer H. Pettit currently of Charlottesville; brother Leonard Robinson of Baltimore, MD; three children, Judith Pettit Daughtry and husband Robert of Richmond, David Pettit and wife Carolyn of Charlottesville, and Sandra Pettit Husted and husband James of DeFuniak Springs, FL; grandchildren Susan Daughtry, Katie Jones, Allan Pettit, Drew Pettit, Brooke Pettit and Daniel Veit; four great grandchildren with a fifth due in July; and numerous nieces and nephews. Judith was a friend to all who knew her and lived her life with a perpetual sweet good nature despite many physical challenges. While she will be sadly missed, we celebrate her life with joy, love and profound gratitude for the gifts she gave us. The Family extends special thanks to the staff of Our Lady of Peace, Hospice of the Piedmont and Home Instead of Charlottesville for their loving and compassionate care in Judith’s final days. A celebration of Judith’s life will take place at Teague Funeral Service in Charlottesville at noon on Monday, May 4. Burial will be private.
