Born on March 21, 1934, to the late Kemper and Cora Shifflett, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Lee Hunt; her son, Steve Hunt; and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Hunt; and a very special pet, Princess. She was also preceded in death by all of all her brothers, Roger, Daniel, David, Vernon, William, and Earl Shifflett.
Survived by her daughters, Donna (Grant) Webster, and Wanda (Buddy) Davis; her son, Edward Lee Hunt Jr.; grandchildren, Curtis Hughes and Ashleigh Fox; great-grandchildren, Carly (BJ) Viar, Dylan, Izzy, Tyler, and Olivia Sampson; great great-grandchild, Liam Viar; and the grand puppy, Hughie!
She is also survived by her sisters, Juanita Garrison, Dorothy (Billy) McAllister, Bonnie (Wesley) Gibson, and Connie Gibson; a special aunt, Barbara (Bernard) Cook and many special nephews and nieces. Special family include Stella Hunt and Barbara Hepler, who made Joyce's life so much better.
Joyce loved a cookout because all of her family were together. She was a great country cook herself. Her talents included being known for her rummy playing skills, working Jigsaw puzzles (only once, then on to a new one), and enjoying a fruit pie from Food Lion.
She worked hard to support her family and raised her children to understand the value of a dollar. Her careers included a nursing assistant at UVA Medical Center, a seamstress at Frank Ix silk mill, and later sanitation at Morton’s/Conagra.
Her favorite place to be was always at home but occasionally she would get to the beach. She loved the sunshine but hated the sand. Playing putt-putt or dolphin watching gave her great joy. Joyce was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
