George Robinson

George Ellis Robinson, 87, of Charlottesville, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018. George was born on October 4, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Samuel and Ida Marie Davis Robinson. A talented man in many different ways, he grew up in Allentown, Pa. He graduated with an Art Degree from Kutztown State College. During the 1950’s George served in the Army and Navy intelligence units. As Creative Director for Benton & Bowles, Madison Avenue, New York City, George left a legacy of TV commercials with clever concepts and turns of phrase. After leaving Madison Avenue, he owned his own advertising agency in New Jersey. In the early 1990’s he moved to Orange, Va., and worked for MSAG Data Corporation. He always said that the move to Virginia gave him a longer life. In 1996 he retired to become a Hospice Volunteer for Hospice of the Piedmont. Both George and his Hospice patients were gifted by that service. In addition, he delivered Meals on Wheels until his health declined. As an active member of Unity of Charlottesville, he served on the Board of Directors, led the prayer team, and ran the Unity Bookstore for a number of years. In addition to Unity teachings, his major path was A Course in Miracles. George knew that he was much more than his physical body; that he was a spiritual being having a human experience. In his later years he was a model HO railroad enthusiast, and he spent many hours constructing a detailed layout and wrote amusing stories to go along with all the characters. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Albee of Horseheads, N.Y. George is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Rita Robinson; his daughter, Nancy Robinson Dunn and her husband, Richard, of Elmira, N.Y.; his son, Charles E. Robinson of Colonial Heights, Va.; his daughter, Linda B. Robinson, and her partner, Bill Zwiebel, of Durham, N.C.; his daughter, Leslie A. Spinello and her husband, Jeff, of Lake Monticello; and his grandsons, Tyler Dunn, Kyle Dunn and Joseph Robinson. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Marclare Lang Staton and her husband, Wade, of Olive Branch, Miss.; and his stepson, Robert Lang of Waynesboro, Va. A celebration of George’s life will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Unity of Charlottesville, 2825 Hydraulic Circle, Charlottesville. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in the ICU and on Cornell 2 at Martha Jefferson Hospital for the wonderful care they gave George during the last days of his life.
