Ben Waddell Thacker

Ben W. “Red” Thacker, age 87, of Charlottesville, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at UVA Medical Center. He was born on February 3, 1928, in Charlottesville, a son of the late Walter M. and Mamie Hunt Thacker. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lyvonne Morris; and five brothers, Walter Jr., Asa, Andrew, John, and Littlepage. Mr. Thacker was the farm manager at Ragged Mt. Farm for 50 years and became a self-employed farmer his remaining years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gladys; two sons, Robert and his wife, Barbara Thacker of Scottsville, and Bruce and his wife, Margaret Thacker of Crozet; three grandsons, Jeremy, Benjamin, and his wife, Emily, and Ryan; one great-grandson, Owen; a sister-in-law, Edna Thacker of North Garden, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at Teague Funeral Home on Monday, September 28, 2015, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Robert Price will officiate. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 27, 2015, from 6 until 8 p.m. Contributions can be made to North Garden Vol. Fire Dept., P.O.
