WT Michael Thompson

W.T. Michael Thompson (known as "T" to his family and friends) was born in Charlotte, N.C. on February 29, 1936 but because he was born in his home, his legal date of birth was recorded as March 1, 1936.

Being a Leap Year baby, it was always a family joke to celebrate his birthday every four years and with each four years, he remained very young throughout his life.

"T" was raised in Charlotte and graduated from Tech High School and then went to work for Lance Crackers. After working at Lance for many years, he changed career paths and went into printing and retired in 1987.

“T” was an avid fisherman and known for telling many jokes.

He was married to Merle Reynolds Thompson for 65 years before her death in 2023.

“T” is survived by two daughters - Merle Layne Thompson and her husband Robert S. Baxter and Tracy Thompson Broome and her husband David W. Broome. Grandchildren- Brittany Broome Printy and her husband Tyler Printy, David Benjamin Broome and Victoria Broome Griffin and husband Dr. Edward Griffin. Great-grandchildren-Adeline Printy and Catherine Printy.

“T” was preceded by his parents Willis Thompson and Loma Fink as well as many sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be held from 11:00am -12:00pm Thursday August 29th at McEwen Funeral Home in Mint Hill, NC 28227. Graveside service will follow at Wilson Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
