Mr. Smith, 79 of Charlotte passed away June 11, 2012. He was born in Anson County on April 10, 1933, son of the late Jim and Mae Smith. He retired from City of Charlotte-Sanitation Department as a crew chief/driver and was a member of Green Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9:00 P. M. Wednesday June 13, 2012 at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel 5716 Monroe Rd. Charlotte, NC 29212. A service to honor his life will be at 1:30 P. M. Thursday in the funeral home chapel conducted by Reverend Matthew Eades. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Evelyn Smith, son Michael Smith of Monroe, daughter Sandra Ward of Charlotte, 6 grandchildren, Melody Jefferson, Crystal Dennis, Jacob Smith, T. J. Smith, Paul Ward, Jason Smith and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Roger Smith. Bill had many other relatives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
