Willie Lynn Hunter

Willie leaves behind her loving husband, Jerry Hunter, who stood by her side throughout their journey together. She is also survived by her three sons: Scott (Shane), Shane (Patti), and Sheldon (Emily), who will continue to carry her love and values with them.

In addition, she is survived by her brother, Everette Lynn (Becky), and her sisters, Carol Van Hise (Mike) and Kay Kannan, who shared special bonds of family and shared experiences.

Willie's legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Scott Jr. (Shanel), Steven (Becca), Samuel (Jessica), Sean-Patrick, Callee, Mac, Gavin, and Finley Hunter. They were a source of joy and pride in her life, and they will forever carry her love in their hearts.

Furthermore, she leaves behind six beloved great-grandchildren, who will grow up with the memory of their remarkable great-grandmother.

Willie was an active and dedicated member of Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she found a sense of community, spirituality, and purpose. Her involvement in the church was an integral part of her life, and she contributed her time and talents to various activities and ministries.

As a graduate of Appalachian State University, Willie held a degree in Elementary Education. Her passion for teaching led her to join the Mecklenburg County School System, where she embarked on a fulfilling career as an educator. In the classroom, she was committed to shaping young minds, fostering a love for learning, and instilling values of compassion, curiosity, and perseverance in her students.

Christmas was a special time of year for her, filled with joy and anticipation. Among the many traditions she cherished, one of her absolute favorites was setting up her Christmas village. It was a labor of love that brought her immense happiness. It brought her closer to the true spirit of Christmas, reminding her of the importance of love, family, and spreading joy during this special time of year.

In addition to her love for Christmas, she had an unwavering passion for UNC sports. Whether it was basketball, football, or any other sport, she was a devoted fan, proudly supporting her favorite team. Her dedication extended beyond simply watching the games; she actively engaged in coaching and supporting youth sports in her community. One of her notable contributions was her involvement in the West Mecklenburg Little League Baseball program. She worked alongside her husband, dedicating countless hours to coaching not only their own children but also other young athletes in the community.

Quilting and sewing were among Willie's greatest passions. She had a deep love for the art of creating beautiful and intricate quilts and garments through her sewing skills. She would often use her skills to create heartfelt gifts for others, infusing each piece with love and care. Whether it was a cozy quilt for a newborn baby, a personalized garment for a loved one, or a thoughtful handmade item for a special occasion, Willie's creations were cherished by those who received them.

Willie's love for flowers was a prominent part of her life, and she shared this passion with her husband. They often found themselves drawn to the vibrant and colorful world of flora, regularly visiting places like Lowes to immerse themselves in their shared hobby. Through her passion, she found solace, creativity, and a deep connection with nature. Her shared hobby with her husband not only strengthened their bond but also allowed them to create a sanctuary of tranquility and natural splendor in their own yard.

A celebration of Willie's life will be held at Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church, located at 2324 Sam Wilson Rd, Charlotte, NC 28214, on Monday, June 19th, 2023. Visitation will begin at 11:00 with the service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church.
