“Paw-Paw”
Mr. Williamson, 95, of Charlotte, passed away on February 24, 2010 at Sardis Oaks. Bill was born on September 28, 1914 in Guthriesville, SC, son of the late William H. and Jane Estelle Williamson.
After proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, Bill began his career in food sales with the C. D. Kenny Co. in Charlotte. He subsequently held positions of management and ownership with such companies as Archibald, Martin, and Williamson, House of Stokely, Piedmont Food Brokers, and Allstate Food Brokers. Bill’s customers always knew they could rely on his honesty and perseverance to deliver their mutual goals.
Bill was a charter member of Myers Park Baptist Church. He was an active member, who particularly enjoyed the devotions and friendships built through Men’s Sunday School. He was well known for his gardening, often sharing his home grown vegetables and prized roses with friends, neighbors, and family. Bill’s greatest passion was his family, having helped raise three sons, and three grandchildren who all lovingly knew him as Paw-Paw.
He is survived by his wife Ella Hord Williamson; brother Neil Williamson of McConnells, SC; sons Bill Williamson III, Harry Williamson, both of Charlotte, and Johnny Williamson and wife Trish of Belmont, NC. Also surviving are his grandchildren Blair Williamson and wife Erin of Gainesville, Fl, Melissa Williamson of Athens, Ga, and Anna-Catherine Triggs of Charlotte.
Family will receive friends at Harry and Bryant Company, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28207, from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 27th. The funeral service will be conducted at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207 at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27th. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Myers Park Baptist Church.
