William (Billy)Franklin Rowan passed away on July 14,2024 in Charlotte, NC surrounded by his family. Billy was born in Memphis, TN on December 4th,1931. The third son to the late James Philip Rowan and Agnes Reid Houseal. "Tall as a towering oak" was often used to describe Billy. He was lofty in stature with down to earth devotedness. During the Korean war, Billy served in the Army and also in the Air Force. No one loved working for the United States Postal Service more than Billy. He worked as a letter carrier for 45 years. He frequently checked in on the elderly on his postal route.
After months of correspondence, Billy traveled to Honduras where he married his beloved wife, Rosina. They were married for 51 years. Billy also sponsored Rosina's siblings for future permanent residency in the United States. Billy and Rosina had three girls: Maritza(Kelly), Holly(Mark) and Brittany (Brendan). More blessings came in the form of grandchildren: William Campbell Crowson, Elaina Rowan Grady, Evelyn Mary Grady, Rowan Elizabeth Crowson and Eleanor Rose Grady.
Billy was a life long supporter of college football, especially the hometown Memphis State tigers. He loved roast beef dinners, long walks in the neighborhood and anything sweet. He always had a variety of cookies and candy in the kitchen cabinet. Billy was dedicated to his faith and family. His memory will remain in the minds of those that he touched with his gentle demeanor. Go Tigers Go!!
Billy was preceded in death by his brothers Robert James Rowan Sr, Frederick Rowan and Philip Reid Rowan.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to St Jude Children's Hospital 262 Danny Thomas PL Memphis TN 38105.
A memorial service for Billy will be held at 1:00 PM on August 10, 2024 at the home of Brendan and Brittany Grady 10635 Tyne CT Charlotte NC 28210. A memorial in Memphis TN will be at a future date.
