William Berry “Bill” Huggins, 84, passed away early Monday morning, October 7, 2024 at Atrium Pineville LTAC following a lengthy illness. Born April 10, 1940, in Lumberton, NC, he was the son of the late Asberry “Berry” and Grace Branch. He was a loving husband to the late Barbara Jean (Bobbie) Huggins to whom he was married 56 years. He left Lumberton with his young family and came to Charlotte in 1969 and called it home. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Panama Canal during the Cuban Missile Crisis during the early sixties. Bill was known by many from his long successful career in the welding industry most recently Airgas in Charlotte where he worked up until November of 2023. He was well liked by his customers and friends because of his warmth, charm, snappy dressing and a commitment of loyalty and excellency to them. Most of his customers called him friend, he was simply that likable.
He was an avid quail hunter with a love and passion for gun collecting that he shared with his two sons.
He loved binging old western and war movies, listening to Elvis Presley and George Jones, loved the Consititution of the USA, was very patriotic, and thoroughly enjoyed engaging in discussions about our beloved America. He was a man who loved and cherished his friends, family and country.
Survivors are his sons, Keith Huggins (Terrie), Mark Huggins (Carter), sister Peggy Grovenstein, granddaughters Lauren Huggins Ramirez (Danny), Abby Morris and great grandson Roman Ramirez.
Memorial services are planned for 6-8 pm Friday, October 11, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Service-Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. Friends may visit the family beginning at 6 pm with the service following at 7 pm.
