In addition to her parents, Ginnie has been reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, James Y. Ross; son, Ricky L. Ross; sister, Patsy Trantham; brother, Jimmy Love; and brother-in-law, Marshall Caldwell.
The oldest of four children, Ginnie was born on March 2, 1942 in Alexandria, VA to the late Lewis Jackson Love and Ida Lois (Bell) Love.
When Ginnie was a young girl, she moved with her family to the Charlotte area. Ginnie attended West Mecklenburg High School, and it was during those teen years when she fell in love with James Ross, a boy from the neighborhood. Ginnie and James were married on March 18, 1960, just two weeks after her 18th birthday, in York County, SC.
A gifted seamstress from a young age, Ginnie began her life-long career by working with her mother at Stately Ladies. That experience allowed her to further develop her talents, and her expertise was formally recognized when she was promoted to Supervisor. After about a decade, Ginnie left to open her own alterations shop on Bradford Drive with her sister, Patsy, which they operated successfully for several years. After some time, they had to close the doors, but Ginnie and Patsy continued the work via an in-home business until her retirement in the mid-1980s.
Caring and generous, Ginnie also often took on sewing projects for family and friends, and she especially liked making beautiful clothes for her daughter, Tammy. Aside from sewing, Ginnie tremendously enjoyed reading romance novels, traveling to the beach or the mountains, gardening, and shopping. She also had a marked appreciation for the beautiful, aged creations she saw; she admired old colonial houses and treasured the antiques and heirlooms that were passed down to her.
Above all, though, Ginnie was unwaveringly devoted to her family, and she treasured any time spent with them. Over the years, she hosted many family get-togethers with her sisters, brother, and their families; when all her nieces stayed over, she delighted in staying up playing cards, candy land, and other games with them.
When it came to her husband and children, Ginnie’s love and dedication knew no limits. She frequently came home after a full day at work and took pride in making a delicious meal, complete with dessert, to enjoy with her family.
Those left to honor Ginnie’s memory include her daughter, Tammy R. Capien (Harold); sister, Carolyn Caldwell; brother-in-law, Robert Trantham; and sister-in-law, Betty Love; as well as numerous special nieces, other relatives, and dear friends.
Ginnie’s funeral service will begin at 1:00pm on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive in Charlotte. The burial will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
