Virginia Bright Bright Barrett

Virginia Bright Barrett, 88, of Charlotte, formerly of Oak Island, NC, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House of Rock Hill, SC. Virginia was born on October 9, 1922 to the late Etta Lee Duffy and Lamar Lewis Bright and was one of three children.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Marvin Barrett, who passed in March, 2011. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Herman Ernest Bright and one sister, Susan Jeannine Cochran.

Virginia is survived by two sons, James M. Barrett, Jr. of Chester SC, Phillip W. Barrett and wife, Patti, of Waxhaw, NC; and one daughter, Susan Jeannine Bean and husband, Garvey, of Mt. Pleasant, NC. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren, Andrew Barrett (Victoria), Matthew Barrett (Kelly), Erika Barrett Wolf (Matt), David Jacobs (Amy), Bobby Fann, Michael Fann, and Chad Fann and mulitple great grandchildren.

Virginia worked for the Mecklenburg County Court system for twenty-one

years. Prior to that, she worked in the banking industry. From 1980 to 2011, Virginia and Jim lived at Oak Island, NC, where they were both members of the Ocean View United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of the Oak Island Senior Citizens Group.

The family will receive friends at 9:30 am Wednesday, July 27, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, followed

by a memorial service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to CMC Pineville 2nd Floor and the American Heart Assoc.

The family would also like to express their sincere thanks to the nursing and doctor staff of CMC Pineville 2nd Floor for their love and expert care.
