Born in South March, Ontario, Canada, son of the late Katherine Daly and James Kennedy, he grew up in Farrellton, Quebec. Mr. Kennedy served in the Royal Canadian Artillery in World War II and then served 8 years in the Royal Canadian Engineers after the war. He was employed in the civil service in Ottawa for 10 years and then moved his family to Charlotte in 1965. Mr. Kennedy was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank until he retired in 1985. He and his wife, Bess, spent 15 great summers in Farrellton living in a house he restored on the banks of the Gatineau River. Mr. Kennedy loved football, hockey, basketball and camping. He also liked to play cards and socialize with friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis and a sister, Teresa.
Mr. Kennedy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth "Bess" Kennedy; he leaves two sons, Bobby (Dina) and Larry Kennedy; four daughters, Susanne Kennedy, Catherine Perry (Rex), Faye Lilieholm (Bill), Joan Lambert (Keith, deceased); seven grandchildren, Jenny Cecil, Erin Goodson, Andrew Perry, Chris and Kelly Lambert and Eric and Sean Kennedy; sisters, Clare O'Neil (Neil), Margaret Cuddihy (Jimmy, deceased) and a brother, Maurice Kennedy (Mildred).
A mass of resurrection will be held 1:00pm, Wednesday, September 22 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Reverend Remo DiSalvatore officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Tuesday at McEwen Funeral Services, Derita Chapel. Inurnment in the church columbarium will follow at a later date.
