Thomas John Culp, Jr. (TJ) 81, passed away at the Brian Center Brevard on Sunday, September 11, 2016. He was born March 20, 1935 to Thomas J. Culp, Sr and Alice Depree Costner-Culp in Charlotte, NC. TJ was an avid Billiards Player and Angler. In his lifetime he was in the Army and fought in the Korean War and was awarded two combat medals for service to his country. He was a successful multi-business owner, and a five-million-mile Truck Driver which he was honored for by the Governor of North Carolina. He was also a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his daughter, Thomassenia Culp-Sloop, his grandson, Michael A. Patton, Jr and his granddaughter Katelyn M. Sloop all of West Palm Beach, Florida. Step Daughters Edwina, Tabitha and Karen, Aunt Pauline Costner-Brewer and cousins Ms. Jenny, Brian Lane and Jeff McRorie ; as well as brother in laws Ken, Jerry and Marcus Philemon and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his son Thomas J. Culp III, his daughter Beverly A. Culp, his first wife, Barbara Culp Parsons of Charlotte; and his second wife, Peggy Long Culp of Monroe.
A time of gathering and celebration will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm at McEwen’s Funeral Home in Pineville, NC. Please join us to share your stories and the honoring of such a wonderful man.
