“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16
Sylvia Fox Link, 86, passed away on January 26, 2022, at Levine-Dickson Hospice Home. She had family by her side as she was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.
She was born August 2, 1935 in Newport News, Virginia and spent her early years in Alexandria, Virginia with her parents, John and Virginia Fox and younger brother, Wesley. Later her family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where she graduated from Central High School. She furthered her education by graduating from High Point College with a degree in Christian Education and Music. Sylvia’s degree led her to various teaching opportunities, including teaching and becoming a Director at Grace
Methodist Preschool; teaching Kindergarten for 25 years at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools; and finally, teaching preschoolers at Sharon Baptist Church Week Day School.
Sylvia loved her God and loved attending church. She attended Sharon Baptist Church, and in her later years Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church. At both churches, she faithfully served in choir activities, all choir musicals and performed numerous solos with her beautiful soprano voice. One of her most requested solos was her moving rendition of the spiritual “Sweet Little Jesus Boy.” She also played the piano and organ when needed. Her children and grandchildren loved to hear her play piano and one of their favorites was “Amazing Grace”, often singing with her as she played. She instilled a love of music in her children which was passed on to her grandchildren with them having a variety of talents, including singing and playing instruments such as the violin, flute, clarinet and guitar.
The joy of her life was her family. She married Raymond Edward Link, Sr. on August 22, 1957 and had three wonderful children. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who attended as many of the dance recitals, sporting events, awards and music programs, parties and graduations as she possibly could. She liked nothing better than being surrounded by family, enjoying a good meal and laughing. We remember with fondness her dancing at several of her grandchildren’s weddings and recently being with her brother, Wesley at Thanksgiving.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia Fox; husband, Raymond Edward Link, Sr.; and son, Raymond Edward Link, Jr.
She is survived by her two children: David Link (Susan) and Lynda Whitehead of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Clara Link of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren: Brittany Meyers of Charlotte, Bryan Meyers of Charlotte, Ginny Link-Kelley (Dom) of Fort Mill, SC, Holly Barbrey (Ben) of Winston-Salem, NC, Jennifer Michel (Jack) of Charlotte, Mary Mae Stevens (Chris) of Charlotte, McKinleigh Whitehead of Charlotte, and Raymond Edward Link, III and fiancée, Rachel Mazur of Mt. Pleasant, SC; great-grandchildren: Everly, Genevieve and Liesl Michel, Mason Carrouth and Theodore Barbrey. She is also survived by her brother, Wesley Fox, sister-in-law, Carolyn Price (Jim); brother-in-law, Perry Link (Sue); as well as many nieces and nephews.
A service of celebration will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 12:00 pm in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends before the service at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
