Sue Dell Kelly Helms

Mrs. Sue Dell Kelly Helms, 84, of Charlotte, passed away on March 29, 2016 at Levine and Dickson Hospice at Southminster. A native Union County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Zack and Alice J. Kelly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey Zack Helms, Sr., and by two sons, Harvey Zack Helms, Jr. and Donald Reid Helms. Mrs. Helms worked for Belk Department Store until her retirement. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and adored everyone there, particularly those in her Faith Sunday School Class. She loved shopping and loved the wildlife that visited her, particularly the hummingbirds and deer.

Mrs. Helms is survived by two daughters, Saundra Gail Helms of Stallings, NC and Elaine Helms Gherardi and husband Robert of Mint Hill, NC. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Reid Whitley and wife Heather of Concord, Kassy Whitley of Stallings, Alan Whitley and wife Beth of Indian Land, SC, Susan Norton of Charleston, SC, Robert Norton and wife Jennifer of Indian Trail, NC and Matthew Maske of Mint Hill. Ten Great-Grandchildren also survive.

The family will receive friends at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park on Monday, April 4, 2016 from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. A service celebrating Mrs. Helms life will be held at 11:00 AM in the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service with the Rev. Jerry Woolery officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
