Sandy received her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from UNCG and her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Queens College. She retired as a kindergarten teacher from Union County Schools in 2012.
Survivors include her mother, Emma Randall of Morganton; her husband of 43 years, Joe Freiberg of Charlotte; three daughters, Beth Childers and Samantha Freiberg of Charlotte, Dr. Jill Grifenhagen and her husband Jonah Grifenhagen of Raleigh; son, Adam Freiberg of Hollywood, Florida; two sisters, Phyllis Chalk of Augusta, Georgia and Randy Morgan of High Point; sisters-in-law, Barbara Freiberg of Winston-Salem and Ellen Freiberg of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Linus and Mabel Grifenhagen of Raleigh; many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and beloved granddogs.
A graveside service will be held at the Charlotte Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Avenue, on October 25, 2015 at 3 pm with Rabbi Judy Schindler officiating.
Following the service, the family will be receiving friends from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at Temple Beth El, 5101 Providence Road, with a shiva minyan (worship service) at 5:30 pm. The family will attend minyan at Temple Israel, 4901 Providence Road, Monday through Thursday at 7:30 pm.
