Originally from Rutherford County, North Carolina, Ruby was the youngest of three children born to Columbus Augustus Jackson and Erah Jones Jackson. She grew up in Spindale, North Carolina, where she attended high school and was a member of the ladies basketball team.
Ruby was a career hair stylist for 70 years, retiring at the age of 91. She had a huge impact on her customers and was beloved by them. She was a 50-year member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Ruby was a member of the Hickory Grove Parade Association, serving as a volunteer for many years and was awarded Citizen of the Year for her volunteer services in 1979.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was predeceased by her two brothers, Charles Jackson and Hubert Jackson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Harlan Cantrell, whom she was married to from 1945 until his passing 1955. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Oval Ray “Buddy” Parker, whom she married in 1958.
She is survived by her son, Kevin Ray Parker of Mint Hill, North Carolina; her daughter, Angela “Angie” Parker of Charlotte, North Carolina; and two granddaughters, Kelsey Parker and Callie Parker, both of Mint Hill, North Carolina.
Ruby’s family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 pm Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Harris Campus Worship Center, 7200 East W.T. Harris Boulevard, Charlotte, North Carolina 28215, with a service to follow at 4:00 pm. Interment will be held at a later date at Pine Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Morgan County, Alabama.
