The oldest of three children, Pat was born on December 19, 1944 in Marion, NC to the late Ernest Young and Wilma Randolph Young.
Following high school, Pat attended a nearby business school in Asheville where she met her fellow classmate and future husband, Frank Fender. Pat and Frank were married on June 5, 1965 in Gaffney, SC, and they relocated from Marion to the Charlotte area as newlyweds that same year.
While their two daughters were young and in school, Pat worked intermittently at Hamrick’s Clothing, and later for a local daycare, but above all else she was a lifelong devoted housewife and mother.
Pat and Frank were very committed to their faith; throughout their nearly 60 years in Charlotte they attended a few different area churches, notably Sunset Road Baptist Church, where Pat taught Sunday School, and Shady Brook Baptist Church.
In her spare time, Pat enjoyed crafting, specifically crochet and plastic canvas, especially with her friends in their craft club, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored.
Those left to honor Pat’s memory include her loving husband of 58 years, Frank Fender; daughters, Christial Loyd (Ron) and Angela Hunter (Kirk); grandchildren, Jesse Loyd, Casey Edwards (Kenneth), Cheyenne Hunter, and Colton Hunter; and great-grandchildren, Harley Edwards, Huntley Edwards, and Hazel Edwards; as well as countless other cherished family members and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Pat has been reunited in Heaven with her brother and his wife, James Young (Louise); and sister and her husband, Sandra Poteat (Jerry).
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive in Charlotte.
