Pat Benton, 91, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, died February 21, 2019 at Sharon Towers in Charlotte, NC. She was born October 31, 1927 to Juanita Howie Watson and Thomas Herbert Watson. Pat was born and raised in Charlotte. She graduated from Central High School and attended the Women’s College UNC Greensboro, now UNCG, as well as Queens College.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harry J. Benton and her sister Joan Middleton. Pat and Harry began their married life in Charlotte where Harry took a job with Ford Motor Company. Their life with his career at Ford took them to Philadelphia, Atlanta, Louisville, Minneapolis and finally New Orleans. After retirement they moved to North Myrtle Beach and after several years built a summer home in Blowing Rock, NC. As they entered their later years, they slowly began the journey back home to Charlotte, moving first to Rock Hill, then Fort Mill, and finally Sharon Towers.
Pat had a beautiful spirit full of optimism and grace. Her appreciation and gratitude for everyday things, even when things were hard, were a gift for all those who crossed her path. Her wit, warm smile, open mindedness, contagious laughter, and loving heart will be deeply missed. She made friends everywhere she went and brought her own sunshine to each day.
The family is grateful and appreciative of the care Pat received from the staff of Sharon Towers and the hospice team Jessica, Jill, Meg, and Stephanie from Hospice and Palliative Care greater Charlotte.
Pat is survived by her five children, Jan Rand, (Craig), Jack Benton, (Gail), Terry Beasley, (David), Bert Benton, (Ashley), and Trish Cseh, (Rick), eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, five nieces, and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 6 at Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service.
