Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, Coley and Annie Howard, brothers, Coley Howard Jr. and Jerry Howard and grandson, Jeremy Knauff.
He is survived by wife, Joyce Burnette Howard, daughter, Natalie Howard Brunson (Matt), granddaughter, Mira Celeste Brunson (Pop Pop’s “Little Angel”) of Charlotte, NC. Daughters; Virginia Howard Knauff of Texas, Vickie Howard Adams of Florida and son, David Howard (Arlene) of Florida, as well as grandchildren; James, Jordan and Jesse Knauff; Christopher and Angela Adams; and David Howard and Joshua Wesley, as well as a growing number of great grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Jack Howard (Sylvia) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nathan was born in Atlanta, Georgia and studied at Georgia Tech. He spent his early career working at his own service station “Howard’s Texaco” in Georgia until he joined Galvan Industries of Harrisburg, NC. He had a very successful career as Vice President of Travel and Sales until his retirement in 1999.
Nathan was an active member of Mint Hill Baptist Church for 36 years. He served God and church as Church Treasurer, Deacon, Chairman, and member of many committees.
He served his country actively in the Army Reserve until reaching retirement status.
He also worked diligently as a Shriner and member of East Gate Masonic Lodge where he was treasurer for 25 years and was a past Master.
Nathan greatly enjoyed playing golf and had the distinction of making seven holes-in-one. Until this winter, he enjoyed weekly bowling in a local league. He loved Old Westerns, joking with his friends and family, a good breakfast with grits and bacon, hot coffee, buttermilk, attending church, coin collecting, and traveling. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Mint Hill Baptist Church, 7835 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Nathan will be laid to rest at Elmwood City Cemetery, 700 W 6th St, Charlotte, NC 28202 with full military honors.
