Nancy Sue Walsh, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, March 8, 2014 after a two year battle with cancer. She was born in Callicoon, NY on January 18, 1956 to Lawrence and Elaine Winkler. She grew up in Newburgh, NY and later lived in Croton on Hudson and Montrose, NY. Nancy graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, Newburgh, NY in 1974 and from the Krissler Business Institute, Poughkeepsie, NY in 1975.
Nancy met her husband (retired FBI Special Agent, James Walsh) while working as a stenographer with the FBI’s New York Division in Newburgh. She and her family moved to Charlotte in 1992. Nancy was a vivacious, fun loving woman who greatly enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She will be remembered for her contagious smile and amazing sense of humor.
Nancy is survived by her husband, James T. Walsh of Charlotte; daughter, Jamie Lane Walsh, also of Charlotte; and son, Patrick L. Walsh of Raleigh. Also surviving are her sister, Daisy Buvis of Sherrills Ford, NC; brothers, Lawrence Winkler of Jacksonville, FL and Wayne Winkler of Kingston, NY; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte, especially Nancy’s team that cared for her over the past several months. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in her name to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning, March 12th at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Harry and Bryant.
