Mrs. Painter, age 76, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, at CMC-Main. Nancy was born July 5, 1935, in Person County, North Carolina to Fitzhugh Lee Moore and Bera Bradsher Moore.
Nancy grew up the youngest of ten children in a home she loved and a setting she often described as idyllic. She lived on a large dairy farm in Hurdle Mills on land that her family had farmed for hundreds of years. Her days as a child were spent surrounded by many family members, who loved her and knew that she was very special. In her last days she often repeated her wish to go home.
As an adult Nancy lived in Virginia and Maryland before returning to live the rest of her life in North Carolina. For thirty years Nancy worked as a preschool teacher in church settings. She had a natural talent for teaching and for bringing out the best in the children she taught.
Nancy married Charles Carlton Painter in 1954. She spoke of him as a caring and dear husband. He preceded her in death in 2005. In addition, her youngest child, David Carlton, preceded her in death in 2000.
Two children, Kimberley Fuller of Tega Cay, SC, and her husband Robert; and Leslie Mills of Aurora, NC, and her husband Jasper survive Nancy. She is survived by six grandchildren: Laura, Jonathan, Anna, Lily, Carlton, and Katie. She recently welcomed to the family her first great grandchild Jonathan Andrew. Nancy is also survived by her brothers Dewey and Robert Moore of Person County, North Carolina, and her sister Frances Hester of Portsmouth, Virginia.
A graveside service will be held at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery at Calvary Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday, March 28, at 2:00. Reverend Brad Thie is officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, 222 S. Church St., Ste. 303, Charlotte, NC 28202.
