Muriel Holton Carpenter, age 98 of Charlotte passed away May 5, 2014. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Thursday, May 8, 2014 in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Mr. Gene Boatwright officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:30PM Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Sampson County, NC daughter of the late William Jackson and Creasy Jane Flowers Holton. She was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and a former member of Thrift Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School over sixty years. She was a graduate of Paw Creek High School and retired after 22 years with the US Postal Service as a clerk. Surviving are a son, Daryl Carpenter and wife, Barbara of Charlotte, son-in-law, Dr. W. F. (Bill) Bussey of Virginia Beach, Va., five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Theron Carpenter and a daughter, Carroll Bussey. Memorials may be made to Durham Memorial Baptist Church, 1601 Toddville Rd., Charlotte, NC, 28214.
