Mickey was born to Charles W. Long and Virgie H. Long of Charlotte, NC. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Cynthia L. Sherrill. Surviving is one sister, Karen L. Sellers of Charlotte, a niece, Amber S. Smith (Daniel) of High Point, NC and a nephew, Brandon W. Sherrill (Philomena) of Monroe, NC. Also surviving are five grand nieces and nephews.
Mickey attended Central Piedmont Community College of Charlotte and was also a veteran of the United States Army. Primarily he worked nights in the security field.
After retirement, he enjoyed his treasured love birds, parrots and other birds usually acquired during annual camping trips to Florida. He loved fishing with his Dad in the tiny boat with an over powerful motor we lovingly termed "the family yacht." He also adored his dog, Dozer, and took in a stray cat. His passion for animals was quite obvious as he considered them his "children."
A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Friday, September 29, 2023, at Sharon Memorial Park with Pastor Greg Baker officiating.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mcewenminthillchapel.com for the Long family.
