Charlotte - Mrs. Hull, 82, passed away on January 13, 2014 at The Cypress. She was born on August 24, 1931 in Cherryville, NC, a daughter of the late Dr. Forrest and Blanche Duey Houser, and beloved wife of her late husband, Dr. C. A. Hull.
Mary graduated from Cherryville High School in 1949. She attended Woman’s College (later known as UNC-Greensboro) for two years, completing her bachelor’s degree at UNC- Chapel Hill; graduating in 1953 and earning a Masters of Education degree in 1956.
During her junior year, she secretly eloped with her high school sweetheart, Caleb Hull, who was also attending UNC-CH. In addition to being a U.S. Air Force wife and mother, Mary was a teacher specializing in high school chemistry, middle school math and science, and much later, teaching mathematics in TAPS School in Charlotte.
Mary’s other loves were bridge and traveling. She was a Life Master and member of the American Contract Bridge League. She lived on or traveled to all of the continents, except for the Poles.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and her beloved sister, Evangeline McMahan.
Mary is directly survived by her daughter, Robin Hull Henley; her grandson, Michael Edward Hogg; her great-grandson, Matthew Hogg; and her brother, Bill Houser of Cherryville.
A reception for family and friends will be held from 2:00 until 3:30 pm on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, or Save the Children.
