who passed away on September 19, 2013. Born on January 17, 1923 in
Knischwitz (formerly Silesia), Germany to the late Joseph and Martha PIau,
the eldest of 8 children. She worked as a Red Cross nurse in Berlin, Germany
until 1951 then came to the United States when sponsored by Assumption
Catholic Church in (Bellevue) Pittsburgh, PA. While working as a nurse in
Pittsburgh, Margarete met her beloved husband, August Kasak. They were
married in New York City in August of 1954. After raising her 2 sons
Margarete returned to nursing at John J. Kane hospital until she retired in
1983. She loved to travel, enjoyed the sea shore, golf, bowling and was an
active member of The Woman's Club of Upper St. Clair for many years.
Margarete moved to Pineville, NC in 2010 to be closer to her children and
grandchildren. Besides her parents, Margarete was predeceased by her
loving husband August Kasak, brother Franz PIau and sister Elisabeth
Waldschmidt. She is survived by her sons Christian and wife Michelle of
Charlotte, NC and Hans and wife Julie of Huntersville, NC, her brothers,
Hubert PIau of Frankfurt, Germany, Walter PIau ofErlangen, Germany,
Gerold PIau and wife Llona of Sohland, Germany and her sisters Hedwig
Obst of Erlangen, Germany and Christina Bohm and husband Adolf of
Hildburghausen, Germany. Margarete is also survived by her grandchildren
Zachary Kasak and wife Christina, Jessika Remolona and husband Joe,
Jacquelyn Kasak, Philip Kasak, Jordon Aldridge and Sam Kasak. A
celebration of Margarete's life will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, 10:00
am at Westminster Presbyterian Church Chapel, 2040 Washington Road,
Pittsburgh, PA 15241 with Senior Pastor, Dr. Jim Gilchrist officiating.
