Leslie Freedland Locke, 68, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2013 with her husband and daughter present. She was born October 23, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Dr. Jacob Berke Freedland and Charlotte Soble Freedland.
Leslie graduated from Myers Park High School in 1962 and Northeastern School of Dental Hygiene in 1965. She practiced dental hygiene in Atlanta, New York City, and Charlotte for more than 25 years. She married Malcolm Frederick Locke “Fred” on November 24, 1969.
Leslie was a member of Temple Beth El, an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society and Planned Parenthood of Charlotte, and was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Charlotte. She was also a member of Carmel Country Club.
Prior to an injury and illness, Leslie was an avid tennis player and golfer. Leslie was a loving wife and mother. Her greatest love and pleasure were her grandchildren, Charley and Burke.
Leslie is survived by her husband, Fred Locke; daughter, Deborah Locke Denny and husband Jeffrey Scott Denny; and grandchildren, Charlotte Fletcher Denny “Charley”, age 11, and Jeffrey Burke Denny “Burke”, age 6.
Graveside services will be private for the family at Hebrew Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3rd at Carmel Country Club.
