Lee Irwin Carey, 83 of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away peacefully with family by his side in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 10, 2022. Lee was born on October 23, 1938 to Lucille and Joe Carey and raised in Blanchester, Ohio. He graduated from Blanchester High School and continued his studies at Wilmington College in Secondary Education. He attained his master’s degree in Educational Administration from Xavier University.
As a lifelong educator, Mr. Carey began his career in Mason City Schools as a teacher and coach in 1962. He was employed by Mason City Schools as a teacher, principal, and retired as assistant superintendent in 1990. After retiring from Mason, Lee went on to work as a real estate agent for Gwin Reality from 1997-2007.
Lee had a strong faith and was a founding member of Christ Church (formally Mason Church of Christ) in Mason, Ohio. After moving to Tennessee, he was an active member of Crossville Christian Church and was involved in Connect Church in Concord, North Carolina after moving to Charlotte. He was involved in Kiwanis while living in Mason, Ohio as well as a board member of Warren County Mental Health Board.
Mr. Carey is survived by his wife, Donna of 63 years, and 3 children, Lynne Craig, of Morrow, Ohio, Sue Scott of Raleigh, North Carolina and Chris Carey, of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and 2 nephews.
A memorial service will take place on August 6th, 2022 at Christ Church in Mason, Ohio at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Hospice or Wounded Warriors.
