Leanna Young Parker, age 75, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at CMC-Pineville. Born in Clinton, SC on February 3, 1938, she was a daughter of the late James Leland Young and Maudalene Sullivan Young. Mrs. Parker was a retired piano teacher and was active in the Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum. At the time of her retirement in 2011, she was teaching at Charlotte Country Day. She was a member of Sardis Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir.
Mrs. Parker graduated as Valedictorian from Clinton (SC) High School. She graduated in 1960 from Converse College with highest honors in Music, and was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda society. Subsequently, she obtained a Masters degree in Music from Converse and Florida State. She was an instructor in Music (piano) at Erskine College before moving to Charlotte.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00PM, Tuesday, December 17th, at Sardis Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jane B. Fobel officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Parker is survived by a son Jim Parker, of Charlotte; a brother, James L. Young Jr. M.D. and wife Margaret, of Greenville, SC; three sisters, Maudie Reed and husband Rev. A.C. Reed of Winnsboro, SC; Sophie Case and husband Ken of Greenville, SC and Dell Prater and husband Tim of Pacolet, SC.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband of thirty eight years, William J. Parker.
