Katherine M. "Kat" Speight

Born in Norfolk, VA, Kat was a daughter of the late John Bruce McDonald and Annie Libby Rogers McDonald. She lived in Newport News, VA, Wake Forest, Raleigh and Rocky Mount before moving to Charlotte in 1953. Kat was a longtime member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church and was a devoted wife and mother.

In addition to her parents, Kat was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Speight; two brothers, John Bruce McDonald, Jr. and William Basil McDonald; and one sister, Mary Ann McDonald York.

She is survived by her son, Richard “Dick” Speight and wife, Diane; her daughter, Sally McRae and husband, Cam; her grandchildren, Scott McRae and wife, Sullivan, Katie McRae, Molly Roberts and husband, Joe, and Harrison Speight and wife, Ashtin; her great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kat, Mac, Harper, Isla, Hope, Coco and Billy. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

A memorial service to celebrate Kat’s life will be held 12:00 pm Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, with The Rev. Fred Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
