Kathy was born one of seven children on a tobacco farm in a small town in Hoke County, NC. After high school, she moved to Charlotte where she started her lifelong dream of nursing. After attending Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, she then worked at Charlotte Memorial Hospital where she met her love, Sidney. They were lucky enough to see and celebrate 50 beautiful years together.
Shortly after their marriage, while Sidney served in the Air Force, Kathy served in the Air National Guard. While he served in Vietnam, she continued her life of service nursing stateside. This was way more than a job for her, it was her life for an excess of 50 years. She was always willing to help develop and teach the next generation of nurses. This continued with her commitment to Carolinas College of Health Sciences and the development of her nursing scholarship.
She raised two beautiful, strong and independent women, Shirley and Beth. From there, she was lucky enough to have four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and another great grandchild on the way.
She loved serving the Lord, lived her life according to Christian principles and had a true servant's heart. Whether it be Eastern Hills Baptist Church or Carmel Baptist Church, she was always willing to serve others. She especially loved doing mission trips and traveled to many foreign countries.
Katherine is survived by her daughters, Shirley Bruce (Sonny) and Elizabeth Bruce (Kenny); her niece, Angela Gambino (Joe); her grandchildren, Katlin Bryant (Clay), Sydney Owens (Douglas), Camryn Szucs (Colby), and Daniel DeAngelis II; her great-grandchildren, Keaton Bryant, Lachlann Lessing; expected great-grandson, Baby Boy Owens; and many other loving extended family members.
